In an effort to become financially self-sufficient, Budi and Peggy have a vision to start a banana farm that will generate income for the orphanage. The goal is to plant 1000 banana trees, and in 2 years time, if all goes well, there will be a harvest of bananas all year long. Once there is a harvest, Budi and Peggy plan to sell the bananas in various forms such as ready-to-eat bananas, banana chips, banana as food ingredients.
At the same farm, there will also be animals (cows, goats, and pigs) so that the leaves from the trees can be used to feed the animals, and the animals will in turn produce fertilizer for the plants. The entire process will be completely organic.
Once the harvest begins, jobs will be created for local people, the orphanage will receive an income, the children will be able to participate and learn job skills, and the animals can be bred to produce further income.
